About the role

Mining generates a great deal of data that never reaches anyone in time to be useful. Fuel burn, engine hours, payload, tyre pressure, pump running hours, weighbridge tickets and beneficiation plant readings all exist, and mostly sit in separate systems or in nobody's system at all. This role exists to change that.

You will own the industrial IoT and Industry 4.0 programme for the mine end to end — what gets instrumented, how data leaves equipment moving around a lease with patchy connectivity, where it lands, and what people see. It is a hands-on technical role with a business audience: mining operations, HEMM and the beneficiation plant are your users, and success is a decision taken differently, not a dashboard delivered.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the IoT and Industry 4.0 roadmap for mining operations, from concept and proof of concept through to full-scale rollout
  • Design and deploy sensor networks across the lease, including GPS/GNSS tracking, RFID tagging and collision avoidance systems
  • Implement fleet management and machine health monitoring for the HEMM fleet — engine hours, fuel, payload, idle time and fault codes
  • Connect beneficiation plant, weighbridge and pump house instrumentation into a single monitoring layer using Modbus, OPC UA and MQTT
  • Build dashboards and exception alerts for operational metrics such as OEE, equipment availability and specific consumption, and retire the ones nobody opens
  • Integrate field data with SAP and cloud platforms so that consumption, availability and cost reconcile with the books rather than contradicting them
  • Establish edge computing and connectivity for remote parts of the lease, including wireless and cellular backhaul
  • Own cybersecurity and reliability for operational technology — field devices, gateways and the networks carrying their traffic
  • Support predictive maintenance use cases with condition and telemetry data, working with HEMM and maintenance planning
  • Manage vendors, system integrators and annual maintenance contracts; prepare business cases, budgets and benefit realisation reports
  • Train departments and drive adoption, so deployed systems are used rather than merely installed

Qualifications and experience

  • B.E. / B.Tech in Electronics, Instrumentation, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • Industrial automation, plant IT or IoT, including an end-to-end deployment delivered in a heavy industry setting
  • Working knowledge of industrial protocols and telemetry — Modbus RTU/TCP, OPC UA, MQTT — and of edge gateway architecture
  • Experience integrating operational data with an ERP (SAP or Oracle) or a maintenance management system
  • Demonstrated project, vendor and stakeholder management, including budget ownership
  • Ability to work in an operating mine environment and hold the confidence of production and maintenance teams

Preferred, not essential

  • Industrial IoT deployment experience in mining, cement, steel or heavy manufacturing
  • Experience instrumenting a heavy earth moving machinery fleet, including telematics and fleet management systems
  • Exposure to predictive maintenance and machine learning applications on equipment data
  • Cloud IoT platform experience — AWS IoT, Azure IoT or PTC ThingWorx — and time-series databases
  • Familiarity with SCADA, MES and Industry 4.0 reference architectures
