About the role
Improvement programmes fail when they become a parallel activity that line managers tolerate rather than own. This role exists to prevent that: to pick problems that matter commercially, put structured method behind them, and hand the gains back to the department that has to sustain them.
It pairs that with custody of the Integrated Management System — the documented quality, environmental and occupational health and safety framework the mine is certified against. You will run the internal audit programme, close non-conformances properly rather than cosmetically, and face the external certification body.
Key responsibilities
- Select, charter and lead DMAIC projects on recovery, consumption, availability and cost, with quantified and validated savings
- Build improvement capability across departments — train and mentor Green Belts and Kaizen leaders, and review project tollgates
- Apply and teach the tool set: process mapping, FMEA, control plans, design of experiments and statistical process control
- Maintain the Integrated Management System documentation against ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
- Plan and run the internal audit programme, and drive root cause analysis and corrective action on findings
- Manage external certification and surveillance audits and represent the site to the certification body
- Own management review: prepare the data, run the meeting and follow actions to closure
- Standardise procedures and work instructions across mining, beneficiation and support functions
- Report improvement results and management system performance to site and corporate leadership
